Date/Time: through August 14th during library hours

On Friday, June 19, 2026 we unearthed the 1976 Time Capsule buried at the library on June 19, 1976. A ceremony celebrating the event was held on Saturday, June 20, 2026 with guest speakers; Lorena Stearns, Library Director; Bill Tucciarone, Library Board Trustee; Ben Kyle, Hubbard Mayor; Jamie Hall, brother of Jesse Hall VII that was appointed to the 2026 Time Capsule Opening Committee in 1976; and Heather Phibbs, Hubbard Children's Librarian. The Hubbard Ukulele group, led by Paulette Darko, performed the Hubbard Song. The song was written by Mrs. Dorothy Bulliock in March 29, 1976 to commemorate the Bicentennial Year. Paulette Darko, Reba Gizdic, and Joan Faber added 6 verses to the song in honor of the unearthing of the Time Capsule in 2026. The song can be viewed below.

Contents of the 1976 Time Capsule can be viewed throughout the library through August 14th during library hours. If you would like to know if your family contributions to the 1976 Time Capsule survived the unearthing, please stop at the Information Desk on the 2nd floor or call 330-534-3512 ext-2 to inquire. Unfortunately, we encountered significant water damage when the time capsule was opened and we cannot guarantee the item was salvageable. Items can be claimed starting on July 6th by stopping at the Information Desk.

We would like to extend a huge thank you to all involved parties: Hubbard Historical Society, Hubbard Rotary, Hubbard Township, Hubbard City Police, Hubbard Mayor, Ben Kyle, Hubbard Public Library staff, Tony Beall (excavation assistance), and Guy Angelo of Picture Perfect Landscaping.
